Franchisee reveal Apple's plan to increase its presence in the Indian retail market with the opening of new stores.

Apple is planning to greatly increase the number of stores that sell its products in India, with a target of 200 stores by 2015. According to The Economic Times, Apple's franchisees revealed that the company asked them to scale their presence in India with the opening of more stores selling its products. Currently there are 17 franchisees in India running 65 exclusive shops of Apple, known as Apple Premium Resellers, and Apple hopes to triple the number in two years time.

The franchisee also revealed that Apple would share design specifications and labor to build new stores in India in order to make them similar to Apple stores that the company itself is performed in many foreign countries including the United States and China. Apple has decided to finance new stores Indian to repay the total amount (estimated at Rs. 1 crore to the store) to the franchisees over a year.

Although Apple Store were phenomenal success abroad, the makers of the iPhone will find it difficult to open its own stores in India because of government regulations. According to these rules, any product sold by the manufacturer through its own monobrand shop or it should be done in India or should at least have the 30% of its components sourced locally. Since Apple products like the iPhone and the iPad are completely manufactured in China and imported into India, Apple won't be able to sell them through its stores. The affiliate model, then, allows Apple to circumvent this rule, leaving Indian retailers to sell its products.

Apart from the exclusive shops, Apple is also planning on increasing its presence in the multi-brand shops in India like Reliance and digital Chroma.

Apple's decision to ramp up its presence in the Indian market comes in the wake of the success found that experiencing the company in India. With the help of retail schemes that offer products Apple premium Indian consumers through rate and a larger push marketing, Apple has managed to rack up to 400% jump in its total sales in India, as revealed by an IDC report released in February. The report also showed that Apple had jumped to second place in terms of revenue into the smartphone market. For a company that was clearly visible by its absence from the Indian market in the past, Apple has revealed a new strategy focused on India for the new year, which means that Apple products will be launched in India at about the same time that they launched elsewhere.
